Using Trucks For Disaster Relief

The National Weather Service Forecasters predicts that this year's hurricane season has an 85% chance to be more active than a normal season. With concerns that there will be 17 - 25 named storms in the 2024 season.


Although these numbers are concerning, the trucking industry has developed a lot of equipment that can be used to help repair and minimize the damage done to various areas. Specifically focusing on dump trucks, vacuum trucks and water trucks.


Dump Trucks

Dump trucks are a noteably common sight to see regarding disaster clean-up and relief. They are an extremely effecient way to help gather and move debris. However, they can also be used to bring supplied to and from sites as well.


Larger application dump trucks that are typically used for mining have better success in wading deeper waters, however, have a harder time moving around as effeciently. This is why a fleets of dump trucks come in all different shapes and sizes. Even as small as a tow-behind trailer.


Water Trucks & Trailers

Water trucks offer versatility when it comes to disaster relief situations. The 4,000 gallon water truck shown above, has the ability to both pull and push water. Meaning it can be used to remove water to and from clean-up sites. Water trucks also have off-road varients that offer benefits whenever encountering harsher conditions.


Water tanks can also be used to deliver water to people that do not have a fresh or readily available source. While typically used for construction or agricultural purposes, this multifacited unit provides a great deal of help in storm seasons.


Vacuum Trucks

Unfortunately, a nasty hurricane will wash up anything in it's path. Meaning there is a high possibility that there are hazardous materials floating about. Vacuum trucks offer immense power and capacity when it comes to doing anything from loosening soil to cleaning sewer systems.


Many truck design's allow for operation to be completed by a single-man crew. Offering a reduced need for labor as well as providing extra hands towards other relief efforts. Vacuum and dump trucks work side-by-side in many excavation operations.

This storm season is going to be rough, but there are things you can do to prepare yourself. Listen to weather forecasts, appropriately plan for all events and taking necessary precautions to ensure the least amount of property is lost.


Trucking companies have an advantage as the equipment to help is more than likely already sitting on the lot. Utilizing a few of these machines can make quite the difference when it comes to restoring our communities.
